Westboro Baptist Church plans to picket in New York City

A Westboro church that has become one of the largest hate groups in the United States has plans to stage a protest outside the home of President Donald Trump.
The protest is scheduled for Tuesday night and will be led by the group’s church leader, James Phelps, who will speak at the event.
Phelps said Sunday the protest is about protecting the First Amendment, and he believes the president is the one who is guilty of inciting hatred.
“We have an obligation to the American people to protect the rights of our fellow Americans,” Phelps said in a statement Sunday.
“If Trump is guilty, it will be the first time that anyone has been convicted of inciting hate in our country.”
The group was founded by the late Fred Phelps and now consists of more than 40,000 followers.
The group is dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, and has targeted the funerals of people who have died in the military.
The church has been vocal about its opposition to Trump since at least 2009, and the protests often target Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
They also have taken part in a protest against Trump’s inauguration.
