What’s the deal with Freedom Church?
New York magazine is reporting that a Freedom Church member in Colorado has been accused of sexually abusing two other girls and that a third girl, now 16, has been identified as the victim in the case.
The Denver Post reports that the allegations came to light after a church member in the Colorado Springs area was interviewed by police, who reported the abuse to the Colorado Department of Public Safety.
The allegations, which have not been officially reported by the church, include allegations of sexual abuse of girls as young as 8 years old, the Post says.
The church has been closed since July.
The Post says the church member was in a relationship with another church member.
“The victim, now 17, says she was abused by the member in her 20s in 1998,” the paper says.
“She says she and another girl were lured to the church and had sex in the basement.
The third girl says she did the same with another member and was sexually assaulted.
Both girls say the other girl also gave statements to police and said the abuse happened before she was 13.”
The church is located in the city of Greeley, and the newspaper reports that there are no children at the church.
“I’m not aware of any other allegations involving this church,” the church’s president told the newspaper.
“We’re looking into it and looking into the reports, and we have been in touch with the police.
The accusations are very serious.”
